Being unhappy with your wedding photographer is not a good situation to be in. That is why it is so important to hire a photographer with whom (1) you’re absolutely in love with their work and editing style. (2) you feel a good connection with them as a person and (3) you trust their vision one hundred percent.
Hiring a photographer, in other words mean: borrowing their set of eyes to see and document your wedding day for you so you don’t have to worry about anything else but actually living that moment, and then relive it over and over again through that photographer’s eyes. BOOM. Looking at it that way makes a whole lot of sense, right? If you are not in love with the way your photographer sees/captures things, their style, the way they frame a moment, then you won’t be happy with your wedding photos. I can’t stress this enough: really research and choose a photographer whose work makes you FEEL beautiful things, that’s when you know. :)
Jessy (the bride) heard about me through our amazing hairstylist, Robyn Bilek from Sogna di Vita Salon , two weeks before her wedding day back in the Summer. (Yes, I’m just now blogging it, finally!) She had that gut feeling that the photographer they had hired wasn’t the right one for them. As soon as Jessy explained her vision to me and I knew right then that she was my kind of bride. Unfortunately by the time she reached out, we couldn’t make any changes, so we scheduled a wedding portrait session after their wedding.
Let me be clear that I am not saying the photographer she had originally hired wasn’t good. But every photographer produces unique work, and just like I am not for everyone, other photographers are not for everyone, and that’s ok. That is why it’s important to pay close attention to things I mentioned above, when choosing your photo person.
Jessy and Brad are the kind of couple that makes you believe in fairytales. They are young, in love, sweet, playful, and adventurous. We shot at sunset at La Bagh Woods Forest Preserve in Jefferson Park, and it was a beautiful, sunny, warm Summer day, perfect for portraits! There was an insane amount of mosquitoes everywhere due to the rainy warm days we had been having. But we still managed to have a good time, thanks to bug spray, and a lot of laughs.
They ran and danced through the forest, as I stood back and documented their just married feelings flood their hearts all over again. I am so thankful for couples like Brad and Jessy who trusted my vision, trusted that I understood what they wanted, and went along with my ideas. We were able to create freely, and these images are the result of that connection and trust.
